In 2012, Chris Gollon read an article in The Guardian about attempts in Berlin to resurrect the tradition of the burlesque cabaret. This interested him greatly, as he was intrigued to know if people could be shocked anymore. The article tapped into Gollon's interest in places where anything can happen, as seen in Hermann Hesse's novel 'Steppenwolf', or in the film 'Cabaret', or indeed at London's famous club Madame Jo-Jo's in the 1980s. He decided to paint a few of his own cabaret characters, who could perhaps be from any time....
