Love Series & Beyond: An online exhibition for Valentine's Day revisiting Chris Gollon's 'Love' series
A selection of Chris Gollon's paintings on the theme of Love
In this brief online exhibition in the run-up to Valentine's Day, we show a series of paintings from throughout Chris Gollon's career, dealing with the theme of Love.
While enjoying his second sojourn as Artist in Residence at Durham University in 2011, Chris Gollon created a series of works on the theme of LOVE; depicting love in its many forms, from unrequited to fulfilled and unfulfilled; from friendship to unconditional love, and from physical to spiritual love.
Equally in his music-related work, be it his collaboration with Eleanor McEvoy, or works partially inspired by Bob Dylan lyrics, the twists and turns of love are ever present.
Chris enjoyed looking at old stories and myths, and we have included his powerfully modern painting Orpheus & Eurydice.
In his innovative still life, Chris Gollon could also portray human dramas and relationships, such as a date gone wrong in 'Still Life with Check Tablecloth' or requited love in the embrace of two wine glasses.
We've added in works by Christina Jansen and by Paul Hatton on a romantic theme, including Paul's homage to Chris Gollon: a very Gollonesque pair of wine-grass cufflinks, ideal as a romantic gift.
If there's a particular work in this online exhibition you'd like to view in person at the gallery, please get in touch and we'll arrange a viewing.
