CHRIS GOLLON: Beyond The Horizon: A Music-Related Museum Retrospective at Huddersfield Art Gallery
This museum retrospective of Chris Gollon's music-related works shows the three ways he used music to innovate his imagery. The works in this exhibition span 20 years of Gollon's oeuvre, from paintings partially inspired by music or music lyrics, from those of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Talk Talk, to his lifelong fascination with artistic boundary crossing, and his two-way collaborations with Thurston Moore, Yi Yao and Eleanor McEvoy.
The exhibition includes ‘Einstein & The Jealous Monk (after Bob Dylan)’, which was acquired in 2005 by Huddersfield Art Gallery for its permanent collection, where it hangs with works by Francis Bacon, Henry Moore, Frank Auerbach and Walter Sickert. Having represented Chris Gollon for 25 years, and at the invitation of Huddersfield Art Gallery, IAP Fine Art has curated this major survey exhibition, which is accompanied by a full-colour exhibition catalogue with texts by leading writers. The exhibition is kindly sponsored by Williams & Hill.
In 2019, IAP Fine Art and the Sleaford Mods embarked on a collaborative film project, entitled FIREWALL. This unique film installation—combining Chris Gollon’s imagery with the Sleaford Mods’ track ‘Firewall' (Eton Alive album, 2019) — is shown throughout the duration of the exhibition, and can be viewed by clicking Films.
