This original watercolour with gouache is from a series of works Maggi Hambling painted while on a trip to Ireland in 1992, where this image was painted. The Lake Isle of Innisfree, made famous by WB Yeats eponymous poem, is an uninhabited island on Lough Gill, County Sligo, a place remembered from Yeat’s childhood.
