This mirror developed from a commission for a flat in the Clerkenwell area of London. The N1 Mirror featured white poplar strips over graphite, this version has red strips on a solid oak tray frame with an orange interior.
This mirror is unique and is stamped and signed on the reverse.
The mirror retains the original spiral formation, but here the red strips are narrower – 6 x 6mm and the gap around the floated polished edged mirror is 15mm. Both commission and this variant are inspired by the work of Donald Judd (1928 – 1994) who used panels with thin strips in his wall sculptures.
The paint colours on this mirror are by Farrow & Ball. The red strips are Incarnadine, and the orange interior is painted with Charlotte’s Locks. This mirror has integral split battens on all four sides, enabling the mirror to be displayed in either a landscape or portrait format. The battens are also slightly raised from the frame, so the mirror appears to float on the wall.
